I thought I would interview one of our Product Owners, JR Winder to ask what he thinks of the value of Scrum ceremonies. There’s often a lot of confusion about who participates, when these ceremonies are conducted, how long each can take, the purpose of the ceremony, and more. The complete Scrum team attends all the ceremonies except the retrospective, which the product owner may or may not attend. They give everyone on the team opportunities to voice concerns or ask for help removing barriers that are making it challenging to complete their work. If the scrum ceremonies are not managed in the right way, they can be time consuming and useless meetings. They may even seem like completely disparate topics since most people wouldn’t naturally align meeting time with hitting a goal post!
